    Empathetic Photojournalism

    What is it?

Photojournalism is the technique in which a story or news event is told via photos, and empathy is the ability to share feelings of another person. Together they create a documentary style of wedding photography that allows the eyes to connect with the heart in order to tell a story that is truthful and meaningful to the people in the images. The soul foundation for how I work is the same way a photojournalist would capture a news story. Life happens with or without photos, and so should your day *gasp*.

Creating imagery that outlives is my motto, meaning I strive to document moments the way they happened and not the way I made it seem. I am not here to change your day, and I am not here to create 'my art', but rather I am here to be a historian of your wedding day. Of course I still do directed family, bridal party, and couple photos, but it's the in between moments from those that really speak to who people are, and that shit lives on you guys. I want to be a witness of your memories, a truth teller, and your biggest advocate. I hear you. I see you. And I am ready to be your witness.... and *maybe grab a drink and pet your dog*

    Wedding Q&A

    Q.

If you are a photojournalist does that mean you won't do ANY posed photos?

    A.
This is the most common question I get! I just want to start out by saying YES- of course I still do posed/directed couple, family, and bridal party photos! But between all of the posed stuff, I keep my camera going to get the post reactions! So don't worry- grandma will still get good photos for her fridge!

    Q.

What do you require to book?

    A.
A signed contract and a $900 non refundable retainer! The $900 of course goes towards your total that is due 1 month before the wedding.

    Q.

How does travel work for the wedding day?

    A.
See "what about travel?" at the bottom of this page!

    Q.

Do you help make a day of schedule?

    A.
I can certainly help make suggestions, but the biggest thing I want you to know is that I will always prioritize what is easiest for the day over what time will "make better photos." I know that you want great photos, trust me, but at the end of the day I will get great photos no matter what- and the only thing you need to worry about is how you would live a day that is best for you and your partner.

    Q.

Can we have a meeting before we book? What about before the wedding day?

    A.
Of course we can! I just ask that our meetings be over facetime as I live in Little Rock, Arkansas!

    Q.

Do you like outside weddings more than church weddings?

    A.
Absolutely not! All weddings are of equal value to me! It's an incredible honor for me to be your witness, and your memories are just as important as the next couples wedding memories!

    Q.

Should we do a first look?

    A.
I don't know, do you WANT to do one? How have you imagined your wedding day going since you were a little girl? Remember those thoughts. Remember the giddy feelings of thinking about getting married. How have you always pictured it? That is what I want for you!

    Q.

Do we feed you on wedding day?

    A.
Ahhhhh yes please!! I require that I eat what the guest eat on wedding day :)

    Q.

How do you feel about unplugged ceremonies?

    A.
That only way for a successful unplugged ceremony to happen is to have your minister mention it before the ceremony. Have them suggest to guest to take a moment to be present and turn off their cell phones. If you are asking me how I feel about it- the answer is that I don't really care either way! If your grandma wants to stand up with her flip phone to take photos, then so be it! I will do my best to stay out of her way.

    Q.

When will we get our photos?

    A.
Currently my turn around time is 8-12 weeks post wedding! This is largely due to how much traveling I have to do back and forth from Little Rock to Kansas City every week. Sorry in advance!

    Engagement Session Q&A

    Q.

How do the free engagement photos work? Do we get a discount?

    A.
Engagement photos come free to any package if you come to or around Little Rock, Arkansas! I will drive up to 1 hour in any direction for an engagement here in my neck of the woods!

    Q.

What if we want something a little further away than an hour from Little Rock? What about 3 hours?

    A.
I will gladly still include the session for free, but if the engagement session is 3 hours away I will charge the IRS standard milage fee which is $0.58/mile for anything over 1 hour away.

    Q.

What if I want my engagement session in my hometown that is outside of Arkansas?

    A.
If I have to leave Arkansas, sadly the engagement session will not be free, and I will have to add on travel fees. Traveling so often has really taken a lot of time from my life, and I am trying my best to stay close to my home!

    Q.

    How long are engagement photos?

    A.
No more than 2 hours! Generally I have found that meeting 90 minutes before sunset is the best route for engagement photos!

    Q.

Do we pick the spot for the engagement photogs or do you?

    A.
The way I tackle engagement photos is to make them most like a date night for you and your partner as possible! Meaning I try to incorporate locations/ activities/ ideas that you and your partner would actually do on a weekend together! If you honestly don't care about location, and just want pretty photos- then I most certainly can pick a solid spot for you!

    Q.

How many outfit changes do we get?

    A.
    I always recommend 1-2 outfits!

    Q.

Do you still do a photojournalist approach to engagement photos?

    A.
Yes and no! Think of it this way- wedding day happens whether or not I am there, which is awesome and fuels a photojournalist. However, the entire purpose of engagement photos is literally to get your photos take, so I have to do more directing than I do on wedding day. Even with directing, I still don't put my couples in a box and I still don't manipulate moments. I try to keep everything as genuine as possible, and make the photos YOU, and not me.

    Q.

What if we don't want to do engagement photos at all? Is that bad juju for wedding day with you?

    A.
Absolutely not bad juju!!!! Honestly I think it might even be better if you are really trying to vibe with the photojournalistic standpoint! I think there is something really powerful about walking into wedding day and not knowing anything, and truly documenting as an outsider! If this is you- go ahead and take $300 off any package that already included an engagement session!

    Q.

Can our dog(s) be in our photos? What about kids?

    A.
You can have anything in your photogs that represents your relationship with your partner! If that is dogs, kids, or goats- I am 100% here to make there photos as unique to you as possible!

    Q.

What if we aren't hiring you for our wedding? Do we still get free engagement photos?

    A.
Hell yeah!!!! Just make sure you come to Little Rock, or pay the standard milage fee to get me anywhere in Arkansas!
